TOUGHEN UP: Oath of Allegiance

15 Nov

Part two of Claude Hamilton‘s new book TOUGHEN UP covers three more of Claude’s strengths.  These three principles are essential for long-term success and are only mastered through a long-term commitment to pursuing greatness in them, just as Claude has done.  As you are reading through TOUGHEN UP I encourage you to really study its principle’s and apply them to your life, not just read the book to say you did.  There are so many great lessons that can be learned throughout the entire book that can be used to improve your life in so many areas.

Part two of TOUGHEN UP outlines the second three strengths:

  1. Attitude
  2. Courage
  3. Character
  4. Duty
  5. Honour
  6. Relationships

Here are some of my favourite sections of Part Two: Oath of Allegiance

  • Duty

“Success means doing the right thing no matter what.”

“I am a firm believer that love, not hope of reward or fear of bad consequences, is the real reason people do their duty.  I learned this in the military, and I believe it holds true in other areas of life as well”.

“This is duty to God, family, and country – because when you are your best self, your truly excellent self, you serve God, family, and country at the highest level!  This is real.  Anything less than excellence means you aren’t quite doing your duty”.

  • Honour

“Be the kind of person who always honours those who deserve it.”

“Without honour, nothing else really matters in our lives.  George Bernard Shaw wrote, ‘The most tragic thing in the world is a man of genius who is not a man of honour’.”

“Honour, on the other hand, is all about enthusiasm!  When we have honour, we do the right things because we really, truly feel passionate about them.  We don’t necessarily have to do them to be a good person, like we do with out duties, but we choose to do them because we care.”

“As Lana and I started experiencing real success, we felt overwhelming gratitude for Orrin and Laurie Woodward and the others who showed us the way.  We felt great respect and a profound sense of honour toward them.  We knew we simply could not have accomplished what we did without their help.”

  • Relationships

“Let them see me cry.  It’s okay.  I cry sometimes when I cuddle my son.  I’m soft with him and tough about pursuing my life purpose.”

“Monday morning I put on my search-and-rescue jacket and combat boots, stashed three samples of the vitamins and other products I sold for my business into my pack, and put my pistol in my belt, and I walked to the highway and started hitchhiking.”

“This means spending a lot of time with those you care about most.  Time builds depth, if you approach it with the right attitude.  As I already mentioned, I hated that my military work kept me too busy to spend as much time as I wanted with my family.”

“They say the word sacrifice as if it’s something bad.  But my military background taught me a different way to think about sacrifice.  For me, sacrifice is the production of sacred things.  I sacrificed my twenties for my business, but I got the rest of my life with financial freedom.”

I hope everyone is enjoying reading this book as much as I have and learning more about what it takes to TOUGHEN UP!  Maybe you know someone who needs to TOUGHEN UP a little in some area of their life, or maybe you know someone who would just really enjoy what Claude has to share.  Either way, this book could make an awesome gift for Christmas or any occasion.

Make sure to check back next week for the third and final instalment of my TOUGHEN UP series.

God Bless,

Wayne

Great post Wayne. Duty and honor aren’t heard very often out in the streets and workplaces… Its great to be a part of an organization that puts so much emphasis on these types of attributes. Thanks for all you do. And thanks to Claude for writing such a great book!

A great book for sure! I totally agree Scott, duty and honor aren’t always valued or discussed in today’s society. Great synopses Wayne.

As I read Claude’s book, “Toughen Up”, I am reflective of the first six strengths he teaches on. Some of this stuff should be innate but it is so good that there is a book out there that actually helps me reflect on how each of those strengths are handled in my life. I will definitely read this book again, but presently, I have found Claude’s experiences and teaching helping me to take a different perspective on my life experiences. Thanks to Claude for sharing his life and his lessons to help me get better.

Toughen Up is going on the gift list for alot of my family and friends for Christmas. Its an awesome book, chock full of great information that can positively impact everyone who reads and applies the information into their life.

Its amazing to me to read the book – and see Claude’s ‘finger prints’ on it – his character, wisdom and experiences woven in. I love it!

Great post again Wayne. They are like my ‘Coles notes’ version before I go back through and take notes during the second time reading.

Aiden and I appreciate all you and Raylene and Claude and Lana have taught us over the past couple years. Toughen Up is not just great strengths taught by someone, it’s great strengths taught by a man LIVING them.

    Love ya’s,
    Chris

Thanks for the blog, Wayne! Claude shares so many dynamic principles in this book. One of the most important being honor. He explains different meanings and perspectives throughout, one of them being that honor means that some things simply must be fought for. Our lives, our dreams, our futures and our freedom…Definitely things that must be fought for. This amazing book is definitely a must have!! Thanks to Claude and Lana, as well as you and Raylene, for paving the way!!

I love this bookl! So many key points. I love that Claude speaks from experience. It keeps you wanting more. Who better to teach how to toughen up! Thank you Wayne for your blog. Everyone should read this book! Most people will likely never find themselves in some of those tough mental and physically draining moments that Claude endured in the military, but he makes you feel like your right there in the moment with him. He makes you want to be a better person!!

Great job again Wayne I am loving Claude’s Book and all the many lessons to be learned from it. This book is a must read and will be one of the major christmas presents under many a tree this year because it is so impactful. As I read the book I keep asking myself would I have stayed the course through all the ups and downs. More than likely not is the answer I was telling myself but because of the example set and the fact that he did and has helped others Strive for Excellence and do the same gives me the ability to want to toughen up and fight the fight for it can be done. Claude and Lana, Wayne and Raylene are continually leading by example setting the pace and showing what a difference that can be made, lives touched and forever changed. Thanks Wayne keep leading the way and posting these blogs for your leadership and mentoring are so desperately needed in these times.

Duty honor and relationships. There is no one better then Claude who knows the importance of these three things. His duty and honor for our great nation is unmatched by anyone I know and his ability to build and maintain relationships is astonishing. I can’t wait to finish this book and learn from the mind of a great leader like Claude Hamilton. Thanks for posting Wayne!

What I love about the structure of this book is that we get a chance to walk a mile in Claude’s shoes and to see through his eyes and yet it’s easy to imagine how our own lives are blessed because of his sacrifices.

I would probably never had come to the conclusion that I was not truely living up to my Duty as a husband or a father if I hadn’t met Claude Hamilton some 13 years ago. This man showed me what it was like to be a true man of integrity and demonstrates every day that leading others is a duty he has been called for. God has blessed him with the ability to lead thousands and I believe millions of people and I will do whatever I can to learn from him and become the leader God has designed me to be. Without Claude’s example, for so many years, I can’t say that I would be still involved in the leadership industry. Thank you my friend for your amazing friendship and leadership and thank you for writing this amazing book ” Toughen Up”. I can’t wait to share it with everyone and everyone I know and care for.

Its a privilege to learn from someone who scores so high in duty, honour and relationships. Of the people in my life, Claude is one of the best in each of those categories. Reading through this post reminds me of the importance of learning from those who have the results I want.

Wayne, thank you for taking time to write a blog first of all. You’re so wise on many topics and Eli and I strive to become like you and Raylene. Claude’s book Toughen Up is absolutely amazing! And I’ve only dipped several pages into it yet. We are definitely buying this book for my family, its their choice if they read it or not. Living a life of honor is something not many people ever aim to do, but thanks to LIFE LEADERSHIP we have that chance! Thanks again Wayne for expounding on Claude’s book.
